The look and feel of exclusivity in a paper bag is born from its partially hand crafted nature. Cords, bands, and handles threaded through grommets, however, can all lose their places. A knot is a simple signal of sophistication, a symbol of connection.

Knots are generally hand-crafted.

Cords, bands, and handles threaded through grommets can also be done away with entirely.

In this case, holes can be die-cut directly into the folded rim to create handles.

The ends of cords and ribbons can be worked into the folded rim and thus hidden.

However, since this variation is the production standard for less expensive kraft paper carrying bags, which are produced completely on machines, pasting and thus hiding the ends of cords and bands often unfortunately causes bags made in this way to optically resemble simpler kraft paper carrying bags.
